CertBridge — Get certified to teach in a new state.
Know your route before you pay a single fee.
CertBridge is an independent U.S. teacher certification service for teachers moving to a new state: a free pathway assessment, then step-by-step application guides and tools to work through each requirement. Live for New York.
The free assessment shows which New York route fits your credential, program and experience, what each requirement is, and what to confirm with NYSED. Every rule links to its official source.
Getting certified in a new state is hard, and the hard part depends on where you start.
Every state writes its own teacher certification rules, and nobody tells you in advance whether your program or experience counts. One wrong step can cost weeks and fees. Pick the situation that sounds like you.
I'm certified in another state
Biggest friction
Several routes look alike, and the wrong one means doing the application again.
How we help
We match your credential, program type and experience to the route that fits, and list what to confirm with the state.
I teach outside the US
Biggest friction
You want a certificate that stays valid with the fewest steps, but most steps assume you are in the US: fingerprints, exams, paper records.
How we help
We show which of your options you can finish from where you are, where each step happens, and who to contact when a step has no local option.
I'm a student, Transitional or Initial teacher in New York
Biggest friction
You can see your next certificate but not every requirement, and one missed deadline sends you back.
How we help
We list what your next certificate needs and when it is due, so you can work through it as a checklist.
I'd rather someone handle it with me
Biggest friction
You do not have time to learn another state's rules, and you want a person who knows them to stand behind the answer.
How we help
We point you to the right pathway and answer by email the questions the guides do not cover. Individual support is charged separately.
Not a chatbot guess. Official state rules, checked by people.
CertBridge links every rule to the official page it came from and shows the date it was last checked. A rule we cannot confirm is marked, with who to ask at the state. Right now that means New York, straight from NYSED.
Every rule has a source
Each requirement points to the official page it came from, with the date we last checked it.
We say when we are not sure
If a rule is inferred, not confirmed, it is marked and comes with who to ask at the state.
The state decides, and we say so
We never promise approval. The state education department makes the final call.
Built by New York–certified teachers
We went through this process ourselves, so we know where it gets confusing and where people get stuck.
Fingerprint clearance is required before the certificate is issued.

Application guides
What do I do, and in what order?
- Every step explained: what to do, who to contact and what you need.
- How to upload each document, and who uploads it.
- Links to every task, with a checklist to track your progress.
For when the requirement checklist is not enough.
Expert review
Is it right, and what is missing?
- Prepare your documents from your checklist. An expert reviews them before you submit and tells you what is missing or risky.
- Prefer to be guided? Meet an expert online or fill in a form, and get a checklist and next actions for your background.
- Reach your expert by email or in a dedicated service group at each step.
- You collect and upload your own documents. CertBridge does not collect them for you.
For when you want a person to check your work or guide you step by step.
Four things to settle before you start.
What we are, what it costs, what to have ready, and where we cover. The longer version lives on the about page.
About CertBridge- Is CertBridge an official NYSED service?
- No. CertBridge is independent and not affiliated with the New York State Education Department. We turn published NYSED rules into pathways and checklists, and link every one to its official source; NYSED makes the final decision on your certificate.
- What does it cost?
- The pathway assessment is free. The step-by-step guide for your route is a one-time purchase, and the price is shown before you pay; switching routes later costs nothing extra. Human help is quoted separately.
- What should I have ready?
- Your teaching certificate (or the preparation program you completed) and where you have taught. The assessment takes a few minutes and asks only about your credential, program and experience — no documents to upload.
- Do you cover states other than New York?
- Not yet. Every pathway, requirement and guide on CertBridge comes from New York's published official material. Everywhere else stays out of scope until we get there; we do not fill the gap with guessed rules.
Assess first, decide later.
